Becoming
world champs is one thing and retaining the pride associated with it is quite
another. Like what happened in 1983, after winning the world cup, we lost quite
badly in next few series. This has happened with few other teams as well. But
those were different times for India, as we were underdogs when we won the Cup
in 1983. But in the World Cup 2011, we were among the top contenders and we
lived upto the expectations. Though, the fate turned out to be similar in the
second series after the Cup. It was a clean sweep for England in all the
formats of the game, be it Test, ODI or T20. History repeated itself.
Now, when
the England is in India after the India’s forgettable tour of England, there
has been a change of fortunes for both the teams. India is standing tall in the
five match series by winning first three matches in row and the fourth one in
progress. This change was desperately awaited by Indians as the series is
considered as the series of redemption. And it is necessary for Team India to
show their mettle and wash away the blot that India’s tour of England had put
on the World Champions.
Looking at the way it is going, England is going to
have hard times here in India. And it’s good for India to gain the lost
momentum and let England be content with the great Indian hospitality outside
the cricket field.
